Virtual Tour of the Tualatin Valley Quilt Barn Trail

Quilts are a beloved part of many family heritages, often passed down for generations. In Tualatin Valley, that heritage and history is reflected in the form of large wood blocks that were hand-painted with traditional quilt patterns.

Each quilt square reflects something significant for each farm family and the agricultural history of the area. The beautiful and unique quilt squares adorn 59 barns at agricultural-related businesses across Tualatin Valley.

The quilt barn trail is intended as a driving route but you can appreciate the squares and their stories from afar.

Block: Morning Star D’Topia is named for the upstairs office where digital innovation occurs. Built in 2015 and owned by the Muller family, the barn features a pattern from the Lakota people’s traditional “owinja” to show the family’s connection to the Lakota.
Block: Peach Tree Build in the late 1800s, the peach orchard is a U-pick farm and popular wedding venue. Enjoy the many windmills owner Mark Grossen collects and showcases on the farm.
Block: Chasing Geese The barn was built in 1930, but blew down and was rebuilt in the 1970s. Over the years, the farm has raised cattle, sheep and apples. This design was chosen to honor the six tribes of Native Americans that made their home very near the site.
Block: Harvest Star Built circa 1880, the building was used as a dairy barn and has seen three generations of Reichers since. The colors of this traditional block represent the crops grown there.
Block: Strawberry The Dixie Mountain Grange, built in 1936, was originally the railroad station near Buxton. The strawberry block is a nod to the Dixie Mountain Strawberry Festival, which has been held there each June for more than 50 years.
Block: Carpenter’s Square This new barn, completed in 2018, features four carpenter’s square blocks. John Doctor was a sponsor and contractor who installed almost all the blocks on the Quilt Barn Trail — it was the perfect choice for him.
Block: Patchwork Pig The large Cedar Ridge Farm barn was built in 1940 or 1941 as a dairy barn. The original block depicts the pigs raised there, surrounded by the hay bales stored in the barn. You can see the block from Hwy 6 westbound or below the barn on a seldom traveled gravel road.
Block: Interlink This farm has been in the McDonald family since 1948. Originally a diary farm, it became a site for growing vegetables and now hazelnuts. The block, four plaited blocks together, is a reflection of the farm’s name.
