The Washington County Visitors Association participated in a statewide visitor profile study, which surveyed travelers to Oregon about the purpose of their visit, where they visited and what they did while in the destination. The following results were collected from Tualatin Valley’s visitors. Read the report >>>
Trip Characteristics
Of visitors to Tualatin Valley, 40% are here for leisure, while 37% are visiting friends and family. This is a shift from pre-2020 data, which suggested that the lion’s share (<50%) of visitors were in the destination visiting friends and relatives.

Demographics of Our Visitors
Some of the key findings of the visitor profile study highlighted that the majority of visitors to the destination are over the age of 42, with the lion’s share over age of 58. Visitors to Tualatin Valley are older than the overall visitors to Oregon. Approximately 52% of visitors to Tualatin Valley are over the age of 58, compared to 34.8% of visitors to the Portland Region and 40.6% statewide.
Most visitors to the destination do not travel with children under 18 in their party (75%). This aligns with the percentage of visitors to Oregon that do not travel with children under 18 (73.9%).
Of visitors to Tualatin Valley, 20% have accessibility needs, comparted to 16.7% statewide and 16% in the overall Portland Region.
The average household income of visitors to Tualatin Valley is $114,696, which is a less than visitors to Portland ($119,757).

About the Data Collection
The study was commissioned by Travel Oregon and was completed by Destinations Analysts. Data for this study was collected between December 2021-December 2022. Visitors who ordered visitor information from tualatinvalley.org were asked questions on their intention to visit when ordering materials. Of these, 732 respondents completed the survey used by Destinations Analysts.
