Taste the Bounty: Culinary Tour
Sample One-Day Itinerary
Taste the bounty of the Pacific Northwest with a culinary-inspired tour of the Tualatin Valley. This tour combines country stores offering fresh, locally grown and crafted products and restaurants serving modern twists on classic foods to create a recipe for a palate-pleasing and artfully crafted experience.
Jump-start the day with a farm-to-table breakfast at the South Store Café, a historic landmark housed in a century-old clapboard building. Located in the heart of the Tualatin Valley’s agricultural area, the café offers an array of breakfast sandwiches and pastries, as well as sandwiches and homemade soups. (1 hour)
Next, visit Smith Berry Barn, a destination farm and garden market featuring the very best of Oregon’s bounty. Seasonal offerings include U-pick berries, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, freshly picked apples, specialty herbs and perennials and more. The historic barn is filled with gourmet foods, distinctive gifts and espresso bar. Don’t forget to try a milkshake prepared with fresh fruit from the farm. (30 minutes)
Taste what makes the Tualatin Valley such a special area of the Willamette Valley wine region with a visit to Ponzi Vineyards. Enjoy a tasting of Ponzi’s signature wines, or embark on a progressive tasting tour of the state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery. (1 to 1.5 hours)
Venture toward Forest Grove, stopping at Unger Farms to pick strawberries, shop at the farm store, or just enjoy the beautiful views of the Tualatin Valley countryside. (30 minutes)
Next, visit SakéOne, the first (and only) American owned and operated large-production, craft saké brewery in the world. Groups can experience an in-depth tour of the brewing facility, with an overview of how saké is made–from rice polishing to the fermentation and bottling process, and many steps in between. The visit is capped off with a tasting flight of a variety of saké. (1 to 1.5 hours)
When it comes to craft beer production, the Greater Portland area is number one. Stop by Vertigo Brewing and experience why this area is called “Beervana.” With several selections on tap, Vertigo is a popular craft brewer, and its brewery/tap room in Hillsboro is the perfect spot to taste a flight of this locally crafted beer.
Cap of the day with dinner at Bethany’s Table, which serves a variety of dishes inspired by the abundance of locally grown sustainable and organic ingredients.
But Wait…There’s More!
In addition to these great places to explore, Tualatin Valley offers a host of agricultural attractions and farmers markets to explore:
