The city of Hillsboro is the high-tech center of Tualatin Valley, and its proximity to rural wine country makes this an exceptional destination to explore.
Stay at one of Hillsboro’s many hotels. The newest properties to open in Hillsboro include the Aloft hotel (open May 24th), Holiday Inn Portland West-Hillsboro and Residence Inn by Marriott.
Start the day at Ruby Vineyard & Winery, which produces premium Pinot Noir from some of the oldest vines in the Willamette Valley. Enjoy the picturesque views of Mt. Hood at Ruby’s new tasting room and taste Pinot Noir from Old Vines, Chardonnay and Rose of Pinot Gris. (Open Friday-Monday)
Grab lunch at Midway Firehouse Pizza. Located in a historic property in rural Hillsboro, this family-friendly pizza restaurant focuses on homemade pizzas, salads, dessert pizzas and gluten-free options. (Open daily; hours vary)
Next, visit one of the oldest wineries in the valley, Oak Knoll Winery. This pioneering winery was founded in 1970, and produced blackberry wine, as well as other berry wines. Today, Oak Knoll’s varietals include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and many more. (Open daily)
Across the street from Oak Knoll is Blizzard Wines, which is celebrating the opening of its new tasting room. Blizzard produces a broad selection of estate-grown wines, as well as wines from grapes grown around the region. Enjoy a flight of Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. (Open Friday-Sunday, starting April 29th)
The last stop is Helvetia Vineyards and Winery. Located just minutes from Hillsboro’s high-tech corridor in the farming community of Helvetia, Helvetia Winery is the perfect setting to taste its varietals of wines.
